Why am I so attracted to "emo" self pitying girls?

I seem to be really attracted to "emo" girls, I dont mean the style. Every girl that I've been really attracted to has seemed to be "emo" in some sort of way... The girl I like now is self pitying and insecure and seems to be somewhat depressed sometimes and told me she cuts... I dont know why im so attracted to these types of girls that seem to be emotionally unstable? I dont think its because I think I can help them in some sort of way...Im not very sure why. My friends and other people I know dont seem to be attracted to that at all and dont know why I am, that is why I wanted to ask.
