Using dimmer switch heats up wires?

I've heard that using a dimmer switch connected to a bunch of lights will heat up the wires. Can someone explain why that is? I wanted to use a dimmer switch for our living room halogen lights, there are about 16 of them which come on together and they are 8 watts each. The lights are all embedded in the ceiling.

Right heres the deal as a kid I was abused by my grandad he would touch me and it has all only just come out a few months ago. The stress is unbelievable and its not just thatmy real dad paul is a prick my little sister just recovered from cancer and I get bullied by older sisters who are my mum favourites despite what she says :/ ypu caan say I am stupid but I dont care I have recently just started it and havent told anyone but I get my sharpener blade right a word on myself with it then put a plaster on it. Call me whatever but you cannot understand what it has been liike for me and I know this sounds stupid and youll probably thin no yoour better than this the scars will last forever I know I said the exact things to my friend who is a cutter but it feels better afterwards, you see the blood and I dunno its just better D: so suggestions??

Need some help trimming hair?

Ok so I just got a pair of clippers and gave myself a number 1 buzz cut, which is great looking, except I noticed that in pics of a number 1 cut, the hairline has a straight, round look, and I noticed my hairline is kind of receding. It comes around straight on one side, and the other side starts to go higher. I also have a little patch of hair growing down the middle instead of continuing to go straight. So my question is do I trim my hairline with my clippers to make it straight and all lining up. If so, what do I do about that stubble that will want to grow back? Thanks.
